Hi. My name is Christopher. I can't seem to shake the connotation of that name. I'm pretty sure I wish it wasn't so, but the story of St. Christopher runs through my veins. I rarely feel worthy of being one of humanities musicians. I hurt everyone who ever loved me & everyone I ever loved. The closer they get, the more they get hurt. I understand this is typical human interaction, but the after taste lingers on for me.
The music project, SaViOuR sKiN, was conceived on a small island off the west coast of Canada. There are no traffic lights here, hardly any street lights, no drive-thru's and no shopping malls. Just a lot of great people doing cool stuff. SaViOuR sKiN is merely one of many here.
The thinking behind this music project is much like the simplicity of the Wollemi Pine trees existence. There is little desire to present anything to humanity with the usual fanfare of thin veils & overwhelming pride. Following our own path and tapping into inspiration, as time goes by and space expands, is the way. Pretentious though it may seem.
The root of the word 'inspiration' refers to the "spirit inside". I should add, when I looked up the meaning of the word, I noticed a phrase which applies to me very well, "a rare moment of inspiration in an otherwise dull display". I am mostly a dull display. All the same, somehow, spirit passes it down throughout the generations. Wait for the sprit ... the spirit inside.
The meaning of the word 'musician' is based on the word "muse". There are many interpretations of that word. One of those meanings is, the spirit (or spirits) who are "inside" at that moment of inspiration.
We have all experienced it, yet it's still difficult for us to wrap our heads around concepts like these until we are experiencing it, firsthand, in the moment. Even then, a straight jacket is not too far away. However, most would agree, some music is more inspired than others and if we watch an inspired, improvisational musician closely, we notice them coming & going from some peculiar place.
It can be a musicians mission to provide humanity with what we believe to be, the inspired bits; to wait for the spirit inside. Being only human, we can merely try to get this right. Hopefully the efforts to do so within this music project were enough for this group of musicians to be true to who we are, to be true to what we do and to be one group of many who have done their best to create something for humanity to experience deeply. Only you can decide whether or not we missed the mark.
Physics tells us, the smallest pieces that make up our physical existence are only there when we observe them. The tiny bits & pieces that make us up are questionable. They flash in & out of existence. But, we are still there. Still breathing. Still standing.
Sometimes the spirit seems more real than the flesh.
